Job Summary
Under the IT System Administrator's direction, the Desktop Support Specialist will primarily be responsible for maintaining computer hardware and software systems. Responsible for installing new programs, managing updates and providing technical support. This position will provide technical advice and assistance to employees. This role will troubleshoot errors and fix system issues via periodic testing, help desk tickets, and other methods. The ideal candidate needs to be driven, open to travel to other branch offices, tech-savvy, and possess a strong desire to learn.
Job Duties
• Develop and maintain computer databases
• Diagnosing and resolving technical issues with hardware or software systems
• Speaking with users over the phone, in person or via online chat to understand and
troubleshoot technical issues
• Determining the need for and subsequently providing system reconfiguration
• Assessing user needs and recommending technical solutions such as patches, upgrades or enhancements
• Documenting technical support procedures and maintaining customer records
• Responding promptly to queries and providing information on the proper installation,
maintenance and use of technical systems
• Completing thorough installations on the client environment by taking backups of data, upgrading systems as needed and installing new software or hardware solutions
• Perform in-person, on-site repairs of PC desktop hardware, printers, and other
peripherals
• Maintain and keep the company's telecommunication systems running with minimal
downtime
• Evaluate hardware and software to ensure that it meets company requirements
• Stay informed on new or emerging trends and technologies that provide clear benefits to the organization, business partners, and customers/clients
Job Requirements
• Possess a Degree or diploma in computer science, computer systems engineering,
software engineering, web design, or a field related to the industry. An associate's degree or high school diploma may be acceptable if the applicant has a strong background working with technical systems and can show outstanding knowledge.
• One to two year of related experience
• Demonstrated aptitude for learning new technologies
• Ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to non-technical members of the organization
• Familiarity with various programming languages and development platforms
• Ability to operate electronic diagnostic equipment
• Strong knowledge of browser compatibility problems for all platforms and major browser types
• High flexibility with strong interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a
diverse environment
