The Process Engineer ensure the continuous improvement of the facilities in West Hill (Scarborough) by proactively monitoring the process variables and by identifying and resolving bottlenecks and by designing improvements required to increase plant reliability, safety of the operations and increased revenues. The Process Engineer is expected to initiate the required changes in operational practices and to train operations personnel as defined by the improvement opportunities and plant priorities. On a day to day basis they are in the building supporting hourly employees, Manager and Supervisor to ensure the processes are running smoothly and staying in compliance from a process and safety perspective. The position requires minimum supervision and they are expected to prompt changes required to achieve the site mandate. Specifically, they work with a much greater degree of independence, conferring with the Plant Manager on the more complex or unusual assignments.
Main Responsibilities:
- Analyzes process and operational data to ensure optimum and efficient batch processing in the plants
- Identifies improvement opportunities and defines required changes through the scoping of capital projects or improved operational standard practices
- Acts as project leader for capital projects to ensure successful completion within budgeted time and cost, develops project plans, coordinates activities of team, and regularly reports on project status. Holds complete accountability for the successful completion of the project
- Provides day-to-day support for various process improvement by analyzing the data from the distributed control system of the plant, issues instructions on how to correct deviations, and coordinates the modification of control strategies to improve process performance
- Significantly contributes to the achievement of key performance indicators (KPIs), including the submittal of data for and/or maintain management dashboards
- Will be process expert for assigned plants
- Based on interpretation of data, prepares technical presentations and recommendations to improve batch efficiencies and improved production times and quality
- Individual contributor able to adapt broader policies and programs to meet business needs
- Works independently under general guidance but confers with manager on assignments
- Responsible for executing good process safety practices in own area of expertise
- Completes conventional but moderate to difficult assignments which require the application of various processes or methods
- Identifies and investigates moderately complex issues; implements solutions or provides multiple potential solutions
- Manages and leads engineering students and contract engineers assigned to the position
- Plans own work to achieve assigned goals; responsible for integrity of results
Qualifications:
- B.S. in Engineering (Chemical) is required
- P. Eng. certification an asset, or ability to be certified in Ontario within 2 years
- 5 years experience in similar role
- Possesses advanced analytical, technical and problem-solving skills and abilities and a strong awareness of larger team/department strategies and customer needs
- Results achieved enhance the knowledge and skill base of the organization, and indirectly affect both internal and external capabilities
- Training in at least one process improvement methodology (such as Six Sigma or Lean) is preferred
- Experience with some project work is preferred
Please note this a 12 month contract with possibility of extension.
