Job Description:

GRM Data Analyst



This position will ensure data integrity for Risk Reporting within the Business Portfolio team to facilitate accuracy in the reporting and analytics produced by the GRM Data Analytics team and the GRM Risk Oversight team.

  • Stakeholder with executives from Business Financial Services (BFS) and Group Risk Management (GRM) to provide deep understanding of the risk data landscape combined with business knowledge of the commercial financial services market.

  • Proactively seek out and identify potential reporting gaps, new sources of data, anticipate change, formulate and recommend solutions and gain the support of business executives to ensure effective implementation. 



  • Oversee the development, implementation, and monitoring of Business Financial Services key risk metrics, focusing on safety and soundness of data integrity.

  • Provide ad-hoc analysis. Document and present results.

  • Present solutions for data accuracy to committees including senior executives where identified issues are reviewed and recommendations made.

  • Build tools to calculate, replicate and scour data.  Coordinate back-test data accuracy and determine if the rules are working properly.  Compare output of the tools to system input to find data inconsistencies. 

  • Provide clear, concise and insightful reporting to senior management on findings of exceptions in reporting and proposed solutions to address the issues from an end-to-end perspective

  • Balance risk vs. reward, spotting vulnerabilities and opportunities in the portfolio using a data driven approach





  • Knowledge of RBC's Risk (and in some instances, Finance) processes, risk systems infrastructure and data architecture.

  • Familiarity with data quality measurement, monitoring and reporting tools

  • Proven experience as an Analyst (in Business line, Risk and/or Finance functions)

  • Proven experience working in initiatives/ projects within a mid/large scale program organization to deliver outcomes within tight time and cost constraints

  • Independent work: Skills to understand assigned work-step and then independently execute towards completion with minimal supervision

  • Project discipline: Ability to execute assigned work-steps, forecast roadblocks and escalate issues as appropriate to initiative lead

  • Problem solving: Creative thinking to support the development of creative solutions

  • Communication: Exceptionally strong written and oral communications skills to explain complex concepts, influence and build consensus

  • Networking: Ability to build and utilize internal networks to further initiative work steps



  • Completion of an undergraduate program with emphasis on a quantitative discipline (Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Engineering, Economics, etc.) is preferred.

  • At least 1 year of experience in a quantitative role, with preference for candidates with experience working in a financial institution

  • Good interpersonal, investigative, and problem solving skills (i.e. Creative thinking to support the development of creative solutions). Proven experience working in initiatives/ projects within a mid/large scale program organization to deliver outcomes within tight time and cost constraints.



  • Some experience working in a credit or market risk function, or as an Analyst or Manager (in Business line, Risk and/or Finance functions) is preferred.

  • Independent work: Skills to understand assigned work-step and then independently execute towards completion with minimal supervision.

  • Knowledge of SQL, Tableau, or OBI is a plus




  • Senior Management and Executives in Group Risk Management, Business Financial Services, Information Technology, Risk Operations, Internal Audit and Finance.

  • The candidate will be provided the opportunity to work closely with the BFS Quality Assurance team where they will assist with quality assurance activities of the Commercial Portfolio.
