Payroll and Accounting Intern (Part time- 20 hrs per week)
The Payroll and Accounting intern is aware of departmental strategy and has broad responsibilities that include general ledger maintenance, account analysis, reconciliations, and report preparations. The role will provide a high level of both internal and external customer satisfaction.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain the general ledger; prepare journal entries and maintain monthly accounting records
Reconcile assigned accounts and resolve outstanding items
Assist in the preparation of assigned month-end financial reports, including reviewing reports for unusual trends, comparing current month results to prior month and investigating trends.
Monitor Accounts Receivable aging and follow up
Process invoices for payment
Assist with HST, QST and other tax filings
Assists in the annual audit
Seek and identify more efficient accounting procedures and assist in the development of new procedures and controls
Provide backup support to Payroll when needed
Perform special projects as required
Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, and Outlook) required. Advanced excel skills is an asset
Thorough knowledge of basic accounting procedures, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and IFRS
Hands-on experience with accounting software packages such as QuickBooks
Familiarity with the preparation and reporting of financial statements
Experience with general ledger functions and the month-end/year-end close process
Accuracy and attention to detail
Excellent time management and organization skills
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Aptitude for numbers and quantitative skills
