Expense Analyst, Investment Expenses
SLC Management (Sun Life Capital Management) is a global institutional asset manager that provides innovative and diversified solutions to meet our clients’ evolving needs. The SLC Finance team within SLC Management is comprised of over 100 members spanning several asset classes (Private Fixed Income, Marketable Securities, Mortgages, Real Estate and Derivatives) and other supporting teams such as Global Reporting & Analysis, Performance Reporting, Expense Management, Financial Planning & Analysis and Controllership.
Reporting to the Associate Director, Expense Management. The role of Expense Analyst supports the Investments Expense Management Team in gaining insights on the drivers of expenses and ensuring the accuracy/completeness of expenses.
Major Responsibilities:
- Manage month end processes, including chargeback journal entries to various related legal entities and reconciliations
- Quarterly reporting on key expense metrics, expense roll forwards, productivity savings, Controllable and Contractual Volume expenses
- Conduct in depth analysis of expenses and related variances to support management decision making and the development of annual business plan
- Develop and improve processes to support efficient reporting and month end processes
- Prepare monthly/quarterly management reporting packages to communicate expense results
- Analysis of Investment related fees to ensure competiveness, accuracy and reasonability
- Assist in key project initiatives as required
- Support billing processes through purchase order set up, billing and accompanying journal entries
- Complete regulatory filings as required
Specialized Knowledge/Skills:
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
- Attention to detail at multiple layers in expense management framework
- Highly developed organizational skills to facilitate prioritization amongst competing priorities
- Experience with Business Unit or Business Group financial and expense management would be preferable
- Highly developed analytical skills with ability to identify key messages and trends essential
- Strong ability to be flexible and supportive of new approaches, changing priorities and timelines
Education and Experience:
- CA, CGA, CMA with 5+ years of Insurance and/or Financial Services industry preferred
- Knowledge of Hyperion and Oracle an asset
- Understanding of investments and differing asset classes would be beneficial
