About The Sector

Are you looking for a challenging position with an up-and-coming consulting firm that aims to support the creation of an economy that enables sustainable business models to extend beyond the bottom line and mobilize social good?

The Sector is a mission-driven consulting firm advising organizations on integrating social finance and social enterprise into their strategy. We aim to create a world where all investments and all enterprises have a positive impact. We work toward a thriving economy based on sustainability, which is dependent on a social finance ecosystem that incentivizes business and social service organizations to work together.

Our solutions focus on capacity building within this ecosystem by designing collaborations across public, private, not-for-profit and charitable sectors, in Canada and around the globe.  Applying the firm's multi-disciplinary approach, The Sector assists clients to develop capabilities and assets in the areas of: Social Innovation, Social Enterprise, Social Finance, Impact Investing, and Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

We create innovative ways for funders and investors to support social enterprises with investments that create both a financial return and a impact for society. The Sector helps organizations understand and maximize their positive impact and reduce their negative impact based on evidence-based insights. Our team is dedicated to continuously support our clients to implement the best strategies and methods to improve their strategy and social impact.

About the Role

As a Consultant, you’ll work in a fast-paced environment that exposes you to a variety of experiences across industries and disciplines, while you develop your business skills. You will work alongside social enterprise clients (many of them in the start-up phase) to help them make decisions and implement enhancements to their strategy, productivity, performance, and long-term scalability.

While the specific job deliverables will vary according to client and market needs, the Consultant has the broad skills needed to tackle a wide variety of business initiatives including business development endeavours. You will have the opportunity to exercise strong analytical, creative and critical thinking skills with the chance to solve complex problems and communicate your findings. You will work independently and collaboratively with a team.

To be successful in the role you must be comfortable with ambiguity and creating various paths to problem-solving that we collaboratively develop and assess. You are driven to lead and make an impact no matter how big or small the problem. Ideal candidates for the Consultant will possess the following:

  • Ability to collaborate with team members to design and develop models, business process and tools that aligns with client business objectives.
  • Ability to identify issues and structural problems and generate actionable recommendations.
  • Ability to engage with client resources to identify opportunities for business improvement and growth.
  • Ability to demonstrate clear understanding of client business needs, impacts, goals and objectives.
  • Ability to contribute to business development strategies and initiatives for the firm, involving market research, service offering solutions, eminence building, networking and prospective client engagement.
  • Ability to utilize the MS Office suite (Word, PowerPoint and Excel) in an advanced capacity to conduct analyses and modeling and to develop superb deliverables in deck and/or document format.

What you will gain?

The Sector is a small, but up-and-coming, consulting firm that is focusing on the fast-growing social finance space in Canada. We plan to grow with it which presents a lot of high-potential opportunity for anyone joining the team.

Although we operate like a start-up, our leaders are strong business professionals with immense experience in the public, private, not-for-profit and charitable sectors, in Canada and internationally. We have a strong backing of management consulting experience from the large firms that we bring to The Sector, enabling us to apply rigour on our engagements as well as in our structure.  Collectively, this makes it an ideal learning environment for anyone joining the firm. We pride ourselves on learning and development to support our team members to contribute to the value of our services.

We encourage creative thinking and constructively assess our outputs to ensure high-quality, professional service delivery that achieves results for our clients and ourselves. To create this type of work dynamic, we know it is important to have open dialogue on specific work tasks but also set aside time for broader learning, mentorship and comradery. We look forward to adding a Consultant in our environment to contribute to our growing success.
