The Active Transportation team is looking for Cycling Master Plan Assistant to help implement the Mississauga Cycling Master Plan. As an integral member of the project team the successful candidate will assist with policy research, public consultation, cycling network planning activities and project administration.
This position is intended to give recent graduates practical site and office experience that will assist in career development in the field of Transportation Planning and Active Transportation.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the direction of the Manager, Active Transportation, with functional guidance from the Transportation Planner, the successful candidate will assist in the coordination and planning of Mississauga’s Cycling Master Plan. Job duties will include:
Assist with active transportation policy research
Support cycling network planning activities including data analysis and presentations
Conduct site visits to collect data as needed
Assist with setting meetings, taking minutes, developing and following up on action items
Assist with presentations, meetings, open houses, and public information sessions, including logistics, onsite coordination, display material, workshop material, meeting notes and summary reports.
Maintain and develop stakeholder databases and event attendance tracking
Attend recurring Advisory Committee meetings and assist Active Transportation staff as required (Mississauga Cycling Advisory Committee, Road Safety Committee, Mississauga School Traffic Safety Action Committee, etc)
Monitor project website, online engagement and email
Track online discussion forums and synthesize input
Other duties as assigned.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
This contract will be for a 6 month period of employment between February and July 2026 (start date is flexible). There may be an opportunity to extend this contract.
Up to 1 year related experience (or a combination of education and experience). For full competency, course work or experience in geography, environmental studies, statistics, planning or economics is necessary.
Recent graduate or candidate for a degree, from a recognized university program in Planning or a related discipline.
Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, ability to prioritize and attention to detail
Enthusiastic, self-starter who is passionate about transportation planning and has a demonstrated ability to work independently
Experience in assisting with and participating in community outreach activities.
Knowledge of active transportation issues and current best practices
Knowledge of and demonstrated ability in customer service, communication, teamwork, initiative/self-management and accountability.
Computer proficiency using MS Office applications including Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.
Advanced organization and time management skills.
Excellent writing and research skills.
Geomatics experience will be considered an asset
Graphic design experience will be considered an asset.
Experience with photography and developing short videos is an asset.
Occasional evening and/or weekend work may be required.
