Job Description:

Job Title: Development Engineering & Construction Trainee

Job Summary

The Development Engineering & Construction group reviews development applications from civil, stormwater, environmental and traffic planning perspectives. The Trainee will be involved in the review and preparation of comments for various types of development applications.

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the direction of the Supervisor, Development Engineering, this position will:

Assist in the review of engineering plans and reports and help prepare comments on Shoring Permits, Draft Plan of Subdivision, Official Plan Amendment, Rezoning, Site Plan and Condominium applications to ensure compliance with regulations and engineering practices;
Assist in providing engineering conditions and clauses for inclusion in development-related agreements;

Respond to inquiries from applicants by phone, email and in person regarding technical matters related to development applications and assist them in satisfying engineering requirements and clearance of conditions for their development applications;
Participate in and represent Development Engineering & Construction at internal and external meetings as needed;
Conduct site inspections associated with development applications if required;
Perform other related duties as assigned.

 

Skills and Qualifications

Degree in Civil Engineering or related discipline OR Diploma from a Civil Engineering Technology Program or related discipline;
Ability to communicate effectively, both written and orally, with internal staff and external professionals in the development industry;
Experience with MS Office (Word/Excel/Outlook) and document management systems such as Sharepoint.
Experience in civil/environmental/stormwater/traffic engineering in a municipal land development context is an asset;
Understanding of urban planning processes is an asset.
